The history of the Palsgaard Estate can be traced back to the 13th century. Its Industrial history, however, began in 1919 when EMULSION A/S was founded by proprietor Einar Viggo Schou.
This company was the first in the world to specialise in the manufacturing of emulsifiers for the food industry.
Revolutionising the industry
Mr. Schou was the inventor of the double cooling drum, patented in 1907, which revolutionised the margarine industry throughout the world.
In 1922, he introduced another epoch-making innovation to the industry: Palsgaard Emulsion Oil (PEO). This was the first Industrially made emulsifier for the food industry, and it held a virtual monopoly for decades.
In 1930, CREDIN was founded. - A company specialised in baking improvers, which in their field have a unique position in Denmark as well as abroad.
The Schou Foundation
The Schou Foundation - founded in 1957 - is an independent self-governing institution.
The founders chose this form as the one most likely to realise their aims, as it would owe no allegiance to the private owners, shareholders or members of co-operative societies involved in other forms of associations.
This safeguards our customers against Palsgaard being suddenly taken over by other companies or being amalgamated in any way.
We focus on long term commitment
Compared to the ways international conglomerates normally evolve, Palsgaard is unique. We are owned by a foundation whose primary objective is a commitment to research and to the preservation, protection and development of Palsgaard.
In a fast-paced economic climate, we can allow ourselves to take a step back and abrogate the relentless demand for instant returns. This freedom provides us with a unique opportunity to concentrate on advancing our customers'businesses. We are not constrained by the need to chase short-term profit ,but can focus on forging an enduring and a mutually profitable releationship with our customers.
